Kelp Extract: Polysaccharide Content and Benefits

Aug 23, 2022 Leave a message

Kelp Extract Powder is rich in polysaccharides. These kelp polysaccharides have different structures and have a variety of biological activities. The application fields are widely distributed in food, chemical industry, medicine and health care, etc. There are three main types of laminarin discovered so far, namely algin, fucoidan, and fucoidan.

Kelp Extract Polysaccharide

The content and function of kelp polysaccharide

1. Alginate

Algin exists in the cell wall of algae, and its proportion in kelp is very high, generally between 15-25%. Alginate includes water-insoluble alginic acid, various water-soluble and water-insoluble alginates, such as sodium alginate, amine alginate, and calcium alginate.

The most commonly used alginic acid product in industry is sodium alginate, also known as sodium alginate. Sodium alginate is a pure marine dietary fiber, which can promote gastrointestinal motility, increase satiety, and detoxify the intestines. It is a natural "expert in preventing and treating constipation". Sodium alginate is also an excipient with controlled release function and a natural plant wound repair material. In the textile field, sodium alginate printing paste has the characteristics of easy coloring, high color yield, bright color, etc. It is the most commonly used paste in cotton fabric reactive dye printing. In the field of cosmetics, sodium alginate has excellent skin care and emollient functions.

2. Fucoidan

Fucoidan, also known as fucoidan, fucoidan sulfate, fucoidan sulfate, etc., is a water-soluble polysaccharide that exists between cells. The content of fucoidan in kelp is generally 0.3-1.5%.

Algal polysaccharide has a variety of physiological functions, mainly manifested in antioxidant, anti-aging, liver protection and contraceptive effects.

3. Laminarin

Laminarin is an intracellular polysaccharide that exists in the cytoplasm. It is mainly composed of beta-1,3-D-glucan. There are a small amount of β-1,6 interchain glycosidic bonds on the long chain. Its content in kelp is generally about 1%. Studies have shown that laminarin can promote the immune function of the body and protect the body from damage.

Summary

From the perspective of the efficacy of the three, it is due to the particularity of the efficacy of fucoidan and sodium alginate and better economic benefits. There are few studies on the comprehensive extraction and utilization of fucoidan.
