Introduction:

Copper sulfate powder pentahydrate is an inorganic compound with blue crystal form, which is formed after anhydrous copper sulfate absorbs water. Commonly known as bile vitriol, blue vitriol, and copper vitriol.

It has the effects of inducing vomiting, removing putrefaction, detoxifying, and treating wind and phlegm congestion, throat paralysis, epilepsy, tooth decay, aphtha, rotten eyes, and hemorrhoids, but it has certain side effects.

Bile vitriol is also natural hydrated copper sulfate, which is a widely distributed sulfate mineral. It is a secondary mineral formed after copper sulfide is decomposed by oxygen.

Gall vitriol is produced in the oxidation zone of copper deposits and often appears on the inner walls and pillars of mine tunnels. It is formed by the crystallization of water in the mine.

The crystals of bile vitriol are in the shape of plates or short columns. When these crystals are gathered together, they are granular, massive, fibrous, stalactite-like, crust-like, etc. They have a beautiful blue color but will turn into an opaque light greenish-white powder due to loss of water if exposed to dry air. At the same time, bile alum is easily soluble in water.

Process Flow

1. Use scrap copper as raw material and bake it into black copper oxide at 600°C. The oxidation rate is required to be greater than 80%. First add the mother liquor into the reactor, then add sulfuric acid to a concentration of 150g/L; start adding copper oxide when the temperature reaches 90°C, stir and react until the relative density of the liquid phase is 1.30~1.32; evaporate and concentrate to a relative density of 1.38~1.40 and then cool Crystallization, centrifugal separation and drying to obtain the finished product.

2. Place copper sulfate pentahydrate in a porcelain dish, heat it on a sand bath in a well-ventilated place, and the temperature should not be higher than 220°C. Stir constantly until all the blue color disappears. Grind the resulting white powder finely (if the product turns off-white, it indicates excessive heating) to obtain anhydrous copper sulfate.

3. Place CuSO4·5H2O pentahydrate in a flat plate, heat and stir on a sand bath, and control the heating temperature to 220°C. When it is completely dehydrated, it will become a white powder. Put it in a container while it is hot and seal it. If the product is gray, it indicates that basic salts are generated. When the heating temperature is higher than 230°C, basic salts begin to be generated.

Heat the reagent crystallized copper sulfate in a sand bath not exceeding 220°C with constant stirring to obtain anhydrous copper sulfate in the form of white powder (when cold).
